  • Open source operating systems such a Linux and BSD provide the ability to filter IP traffic. What started as plain old packet filtering has advanced, and now some starterful packet-filtering features are appearing in some of the modules avaible with newer Linux kernels. This article describes the nuts and bolts of setting up a simple Linux-based firewall.
