This text is a brief exercise of free reflection on the implications of reported speech in the biblical representation of the words of Jesus and in Mel Gibson’s movie rendition of Christ’s Passion. It is contended that, on thediscourse level, the underfocusing of the narrator’s voice pays service to the interest of spelling a supreme “truth” in order to make it unquestionable.
