Resumen de Al·legoria de la caritat en un projecte de Pere Costa per a l'hospital gironí de Santa Caterina

  Estudi de l'al·legoria de la Caritat esbossada en una traça que mostra una escala monumental conservada en el fons de material gràfic de l'antic Hospital de Santa Caterina, dipositat a l'Arxiu Històric de Girona. Mitjançant la comparació de l'esmentada traça amb la que Pere Costa delineà l'any 1728 per a la portalada de l'església de l'Hospital de Santa Creu de Barcelona, es tracta de determinar el grau de participació de l'escultor en el projecte gironí, el qual se li sol atribuir. La comparació se centra, d'una banda, en l'esbós de la virtut que encapçala l'escala i, de l'altra, en el dibuix més definit de la que presideix la traça de la portalada barcelonina, així com en l'estàtua definitiva d'aqueta. Malgrat les diferències que s'observen, es confirma l'atribució a Pere Costa de l'al·legoria gironina i es proposa, com a posible font d'inspiració d'ambdues, la Caritat modelada l'any 1686 per Francesco Nuvolone amb destinació a una estança de l'esglèsia romana de Sant'Ignazio.

  Study of the allegory of Charity outlined in a project showing a monumental staircase kept in the artwork collection coming from the old Hospitalde Santa Caterina, nowadays in the Arxiu Històric de Girona. By comparing the above project with the one designed by Pere Costa in 1728 intended for the church front door of the Hospital de la Santa Creu in Barcelona, it is endeavoured to find out how extensive was the sculptor's participation in the Girona project, usually attributed to him. On the one hand, the comparison focuses on the rough draft of the virtue placed at the beginning of the staircase and, on the other hand, on the more accurate drawing of the same virtue topping Barcelona door project besides on the finished statue. In spite of several differences, the attribution of the outlined allegory to Pere Costa can be confirmed end, in addition, the Charity modelled in 1686 by Francesco Nuvolone bound for the Roman church of Sant'Ignazio can be proposed as a possible source of inspiration for both designs.
