Multiculturalidad y atención al parto: A propósito de un caso

    La atención sanitaria en el parto a las mujeres inmigrantes puede verse comprometida tanto por barreras lingüísticas como culturales, ya que la reproducción y la maternidad constituyen fenómenos bio-culturales donde se reflejan valores, sentimientos y creencias. Se presenta un caso donde en dicha atención a una mujer sudamericana, surge un choque cultural que obtuvo una respuesta ineficaz por parte del sistema sanitario. Así pues la diversidad cultural existente hoy, supone un reto para las matronas, consistente en establecer una asistencia que logre entender el sistema de cuidado cultural del paciente, y lo legitime a través de un plan de atención que incorpore elementos de su cultura considerando que no halla menoscabo de la dignidad humana ni supongan un daño a propios o terceros (1,4).

    Health care delivery in immigrant women may be compromised by both linguistic and cultural barriers, since reproduction and motherhood are bio-cultural phenomena which reflects values, feelings and beliefs. We report a case where such care in a South American woman, there is a culture shock that was an ineffective response by the health system.

    This indicates that cultural diversity is a challenge today for midwives, which is to establish a communicative action that will begin to grasp the cultural care system of the patient, and it legitimizes through a care plan that incorporates elements of their culture in all cases in which there is impairment of human dignity or pose harm to themselves or others.
