Through the reading of the legend of St. Catherine of Alexandria, Emilia Pardo Bazán makes an appropriation of Nietzsche’s philosophies. Her novel Dulce dueño creates a new woman that shines beyond patriarchal controls. The author participates with the Regenerationism movement by incorporating intellectual women as active agents of the society. This movement looked for solutions to the problems that faced Spain at the end of 19th Century .
