Consistently, the social sciences establish for a century the narrow link which unites Catholicism and right-wing vote in France. Despite the profound changes which affected religious and political fields, this relationship is confirmed again in the presidential election of 2012. Increasing with the church attendance, the propensity of Catholics to vote right turns out to be independent of their other sociodemographic characteristics. In addition, economic liberalism and ethno-authoritarianism, which are accompanied with conservative attitudes and political behavior also go hand in hand with an increase in the degree of integration to Catholicism. However, even after controlling the position on the two attitudes scales, the effect of Catholic church attendance on right-wing vote persists.

Avec constance, les sciences sociales établissent depuis un siècle le lien étroit qui unit catholicisme et vote de droite en France. Malgré les profondes transformations qui ont affecté champ religieux et champ politique, cette relation se vérifie de nouveau lors de l’élection présidentielle de 2012. Croissant avec la fréquence de l’assistance à l’office, la propension des catholiques à voter à droite se révèle indépendante de leurs autres caractéristiques sociodémographiques. Par ailleurs, libéralisme économique et ethno-autori- tarisme, qui s’accompagnent d’attitudes et de comportements politiques conservateurs, vont également de pair avec une augmentation du degré d’intégration au catholicisme. Cependant, même une fois contrôlée la position sur ces deux échelles d’attitudes, l’effet de la pratique catholique sur le vote de droite demeure.
