La investigación en psicología: ¿Por qué la metodología cualitativa?

    Construyo argumentos a favor del uso de la investigación cualitativa en psicología, mostrando las limitaciones que tiene la investigación cuantitativa, perspectiva metodológica preponderante en la psicología. El dominio de lo cuantitativo ha facilitado que la psicología deje de lado temas susceptibles de investigar porque no responden a los criterios establecidos por ese enfoque, restringiendo, al mismo tiempo, la diversidad temática que debe caracterizar a una ciencia social como la psicología. Los argumentos que se presentan pueden entenderse como ontológicos, la temática tradicional de la disciplina o la apertura hacia otros objetos que esperan respuesta de la psicología; epistemológicos, la relación con el arte, y metodológicos, continuar con informes accesibles a audiencia de pares, o abrir el texto con el ensayo de otras modalidades.

    The article builds up on arguments which favor the use of qualitative research in psychology, for this purpose limitations of quantitative research, as the predominant methodological perspective in psychology are presented. The quantitative dominance has prevented psychology from addressing sensitive topics, as these do not comply with research criteria established by this approach, thus limiting the thematic diversity which should characterize a social science, such as psychology. The arguments presented may be understood as ontological, that is traditional themes to the discipline or opening towards other objects awaiting answers from psychology; epistemological, as relationship with arts and methodological, continuing with reports accessible to peer audiences, or opening the text by rehearsing other styles.
