Resumen de Nuevas aportaciones al estudio sobre el rol sexual: la teoría del esquema cognitivo del sexo

Este articulo estudia en primer lugar los principales postulados de las teorías que analizan los procesos mediante los cuales niños y niñas adquieren información acerca de las conductas y atributos que la cultura atribuye a los varones y a las hembras. Se expone a continuación la Teoría del Esquema Cognitivo del Sexo, demostrando empíricamente que los individuos difieren en la intensidad y centralidad de su esquema sobre el sexo y por tanto, en el grado en que están sexualmente definidos en sus conductas, actitudes, atributos y disponibilidad para procesar la información sobre ellos mismos y sobre las circunstancias externas en términos del sexo. Se describe finalmente la evolución de la teoría, así como la innovación y enriquecimiento que ha supuesto en los estudios sobre el rol sexual, por sus conexiones con los estudios de memoria y análisis de categorías.

This article describes in te first place the principal postulates of the theories which analize the processes through which male and female children acquire information concerning the behaviour and attributes assigned by culture to males and females. It goes on to exposing the Theory of the Cognitive Scheme of Sex, showing empirically that individuals differ in the intensity and centrality of their scheme concerning sex and consequently in the degree in which they are sexually defined in their behaviour, attitudes, attributes and readiness to process information about themselves and externa1 circumstances in terms of gender. Finally, the evolution of the theory is described, as well as the innovation and enrichment in the study of the sexual role, because of its connection with the study of memory and categorical analysis.
