The article raises the concern of local banks in Myanmar as foreign banks await the licensing rules that will allow them to establish representative offices, wholesale or commercial businesses. An overview of the underdeveloped status of local banks and of the operations of foreign banks in Myanmar is presented. Also noted is the possible creation of joint ventures between foreign banks and local financial institutions.
