  • The article highlights the comprehensive reform of the electricity sector that was carried out by the national government of Panama. An overview is presented of the provision of the Law of January 26 1996 (Law 26), which created the Regulator of Public Services, and Law 6 of February 3, 1997, which contained the Regulatory and Institutional Framework for the Provision of Public Electricity Services (Law 6). The implication of sector's transformation for market competition is discussed.
