Dos meses antes de la publicación de su libro sobre el pintor Francis Bacon, Gilles Deleuze impartió un curso sobre pintura en la universidad de Vincennes, el cual tenía los siguientes dos objetivos explícitos: alcanzar una definición de la pintura y ver a lo largo de la historia del arte cómo se han configurado los elementos de dicha definición. En este artículo estudiaremos la definición de la pintura propuesta por Deleuze, reservando para las dos secciones finales la revisión de las líneas mayores del planteamiento de este filósofo a propósito de la historia de la pintura.

Two months before the publication of his book on the painter Francis Bacon, Gilles Deleuze gave a course on painting in Vincennes's university, which had the following two explicit aims: to reach a definition of painting and to see along the history of art how there have been formed the elements of the above mentioned definition. In this article we will study the definition of painting proposed by Deleuze, reserving for both final sections the review of the major lines of the exposition of this philosopher about the history of painting.
