  • Resumen
    • This research was performed at Santa Rosa ranch located in the humid tropic in the southwest region of Táchira State, Venezuela, with Brahman heifers kept on pasture, supplemented with minerals and submitted to 45-day-breeding season beginning on march the first (E) vs conventional 90-day season starting on april the first (C), to evaluate productivity. First-calf heifers weaned 112.9 and 102.8 kg in the E and C treatments, respectively. Those values decreased to 100.1 and 67.9 kg for second-calf cows. The E group were more efficient in both periods (9.8 and 47.4 %). Economical analysis combining the two periods showed that E was 16 920 Bs/cow (24.8 %) more profitable, therefore it was recommended to use this practice.
