It was studied the effects of open testicular biopsy in bovines by the evolution the breeding soundness evaluation (ICAP). So it was used 20 Nelore bulls, from 10 to 30 month of age, raised under extensive conditions in legal Amazon-Brazil. Three different groups were utilized: 10 controls, 5 biopsed in puberty (Bio1) and 5 in post-puberty (Bio2) (10 and 20 months respectively). Every month, scrotal circumference, testicular width and length were evaluated. Semen was collected to physical and morphological analysis and the evolution of the breeding soundness evaluation. Scores for breeding soundness evaluation were established by spermatic progressive motility score, spermatic morphology score and scrotal circumference score with spermatic concentration, spermatic motility intensity and morphology testicular adaptation to original ICAP. Scrotal circumference and testicular were not affected. There was correlation between ICAP score and age, body weight, scrotal circumference, testicular length and width of testes, progressive motility, spermatic concentration and negative with spermatic major and minor defects. Open testicular biopsy had not affected the breeding soundness evaluation aspects in Bio1, but it has done in Bio2 in wich they had a temporary low level. In the end of the experiment the breeding soundness evaluation had normal and high level in two groups of biopsed bulls. Open testicular biopsy has not affected the reproductive development neither seminal aspects specially in young bulls.
