A functional analysis of the technology of twelve dual purpose farms ubicated in the northern part of Tachira State, Venezuela, with a wet tropical climate was applied for ten important variables of the productive process with the objective of recognizing the level of technology, the technological factors and the most successful farms. It was used a new methodology and the methods of Factorial Analysys of Multiple Correspondences (FAMC) and by a hierarchical ascendent classification (ACAJ). There were found three levels of technology: Traditional (3 farms), intermediate (3 farms) and advanced (6 farms). The management of calves, forages and the milking method; the genetic quality of the herd and the general management are affecting the development.
