In the study of the kinetics of electrode reactions the stoichiometric numbers ( ) give useful information in deciding the probable mechanism out of several possible mechanisms. For simplicity sake we assume that one step (called RDS), in a series of steps leading to the overall reaction controls the rate. In such cases the relation between the rates of RDS, iRDS and the overall reaction, i, is given as iRDS = i/n where n is the charge number of the overall reaction. we show in this article that in all cases where nRDS >1 this relation fails and thatthe correct relation is [i RDS /vRDS, nRDS ] = i/n.
