Resumen de L’intérieur balzacien: Du chaos social au désordre individualisé

Descriptions of domestic interiors abound in the Balzacian novel, and answer the need to give a new order to undifferentiated social space whose values are unstable by delineating a private space capable of sustaining individual and collective identities under the banner of a harmony between a subject and its environment. Nonetheless interior spaces do not always resist social chaos, whose disorder ends up investing them : the description of interiors thus becomes characterised by an overload in heterogeneous objects, according to a principle of chaotic transversalism, which undermines the determinism behind the social classification of individuals. Confronted with this aporia, the Balzacian novel seems to put in place a new criteria based on the personal imprint an individual leaves on his private space, which reveals a distinctiveness different from that given by social stratification

Les descriptions d’intérieurs foisonnent dans le roman balzacien et répondent à l’exigence de réordonner un espace social indifférencié, aux valeurs instables, par la délimitation d’un lieu privé susceptible de définir les identités individuelles et collectives sous le sceau de l’harmonie entre le sujet et son milieu. Cependant, l’espace intérieur ne résiste pas toujours au chaos social, dont le désordre finit par l’investir : l’encombrement d’objets hétéroclites devient ainsi le trait caractéristique des descriptions d’intérieurs, suivant un principe chaotique transversal, qui mine le déterminisme propre au classement social des individus. Face à cette aporie, le roman balzacien semble instaurer un nouveau critère qui se fonde sur l’empreinte personnelle que l’individu laisse sur son espace intérieur, révélant une forme de distinction autre que celle de la stratification sociale
