The origin of quantum numbers often baffles physical chemistry students. To help these students, the author has prepared a syllabus consisting of a very detailed development showing how solving the time-independent Shrödinger equation for the hydrogen atom problem yields the three spatial quantum numbers. The same kind of detailed development characterizes a second syllabus for physical chemistry students, giving the meaning and development of a wide variety of chemical rate laws. The goal in both syllabi is that the students be able to "see" how each step follows from the previous one. Intermediate development between steps is not necessary. The most advanced mathematics required (except for one step) is differential calculus. Both syllabi are available from the author at no charge.
