    Se presenta una discusión teórica e histórica de la institución conocida como el Sistema de Cargos y su importancia antropológica. El autor hace una propuesta alternativa para la etno histórica de ese sistema.

    The article talks about the cargo system, anthropology and history, and their probiematic relation. The cargo system is presented in its descriptive aspect, as the typical cargo system, and in its explanatory aspect, as the cargo paradigm,and the anthropological research process which has produced this anthropological conception is presented. The next section is a discussion of the factors that have complicated the relation between anthropology and history, followed by a shortreview of the dijferent anthropological interpretations of the cargo systems historical development. The article ends with the suggestion of an alternative theoretical framework for the ethnohistorical interpretation of the cargo system.The article is part of the theoretical foundations of a research project concerning the cargo system in the Indian communities in the State ofMéxico.
