  • In this winning essay from the Institution of Structural Engineers’ Engineering Architecture Prize 2013, Michelle Hicks explains how a professional training placement working on the redevelopment of London Bridge station sparked her interest in the station’s historic quadripartite vaults.

    The Engineering Architecture Prize is a biennial essay competition open to sixth-form students and Student and Graduate members of the Institution. In the 2013 competition, entrants were asked to write an essay on their favourite structure. Michelle was a winner in the Student and Graduate category.
