Resumen de Useful Spreadsheet for Updating Multistep Organic Synthesis

Pedro Ortega, Miguel Guzmán, Leonel Vera

  • The development of a multistep organic synthesis in the research field involves a great deal of effort in planning and execution. Once the synthesis is achieved successfully, the challenge becomes the efficient production of the compound. Consequently, the next goal is a synthetic procedure that is widely accessible. Similar situations can be found in the teaching field. Each term, lab teachers must recalculate the amounts of materials needed, based on enrollment. In lab courses with large enrollment, much waste of material could be avoided by careful planning.

Because recalculation is time-consuming, we present in this article the design of a spreadsheet that allows one to update the required stoichiometric relationships for a multistep synthesis. We show how to interconnect the steps and how to scale up all the chemicals needed for preparation.
