Se explora el territorio compartido por la antropología y el derecho, con el objetivo de captar las caracteristicas de una nueva disciplina: la antropología jurídica. Se retoma el planteamiento del antropólogo Esteban Krotz, segun el cual la antropología jurídica no constituye una especialización o subdisciplina antropológica, sino el corazón de la antropología, y propone buscar los problemas de la antropología jurídica en tres campos principales: en el control social, en los conflictos, y en los sistemas ideológicos. Se propone una definicióngeneral de la antropología con tres rasgos: el estudio de la alteridad, la obtención de información por medio del trabajo de campo, y el mantenimiento de unapretención holista, dentro de la cual caben los estudios de la antropología jurídica.

This article explores the territory shared by antropology and the syudy of law,with the purpose of defining the outlines of a new discipline; the antropology of law.Mexican anthropologist Esteban Krotz's proposal is followed up -that theanthropology of law is not just a specialization or a subdiscipline of anthropologv, but in fact constitutes the very core of anthropology. He suggests that we may find problems pertaining to the anthropology of law in three principal fields: in social control. in conflict, and in ideological systems. A blanket definition of anthropology is presented,stressing three characteristics; the systematic study of otheress, the production of data through field work, and the maintenance of a holistic vision within which the anthropology of law can be defined as the study of the relation between legality and legitimacy.
