Resumen de Primeras anotaciones de la anidación de tortugas marinas en las playas de Punta Cañon, Bahía Hondita y Punta Gallinas, alta Guajira, Colombia

  En Colombia, cuatro de las siete especies de tortugas marinas son catalogadas en peligro o amenaza por su consumo desmedido, y los efectos de la captura ha llevado a declararlas objeto de conservación. La Empresa Carbones del Cerrejón, Bogotá, Colombia, implementó en el año 2007 una iniciativa voluntaria para la conservación de la tortuga marina, especie amenazada en la alta Guajira y donde la información con que se contaba sobre la actividad reproductiva, había sido recopilada hace 15 o 40 años atrás, para el área. Por esto y durante los meses de mayo a septiembre de 2009 se adelantó el monitoreo diurno y nocturno de la playa en Punta Cañón, Bahía Hondita y Punta Gallinas, Guajira, Colombia. Objetivo: Vincular a la comunidad Wayuú en las acciones de conservación, registrar el caracoleo, la ovoposición, proteger las nidadas e incentivar a la protección del ecosistema marino. Metodología: Mediante recorri- dos diurnos y nocturnos, se caracterizó y monitoreó 15.73 km que corresponde a siete playas de la alta Guajira, donde se confirmó y evidenció la postura de tres especies Dermochelys coriacea, Caretta caretta y Chelonia mydas. La evidencia fue georeferenciada para su posterior seguimiento. Resultados: Se re- gistran en total 22 eventos de anidación, y se monitorean 12 hasta su eclosión, cuatro fueron consumidos por la comunidad, cinco alterados por manipulación y uno fue falso (sin ovoposición). Se liberaron 504 neonatos, de 584 que se protegieron, correspondientes a Chelonia mydas y Caretta caretta. Conclusión: Por la reciente importancia del área, los datos aquí enunciados hacen parte del inicio de una estrategia de conservación que con el apoyo de los pescadores y la comunidad en general de las rancherías de Punta Gallinas y Bahía Hondita permitirán, como se demostró en este estudio, incrementar la viabilidad de los eventos reproductivos, fortaleciendo las iniciativas de conservación de tortugas marinas en la Guajira por la Empresa Carbones del Cerrejón.

  In Colombia, four of the seven species of marine turtles are catalogued in danger or threatens, by their excessive consumption and the effects of the capture have taken to declare them object of Conservation. Carbones del Cerrejón has implemented in 2007 a voluntary initiative for the conservation of sea turtles, an endangered species in the high Guajira, and where the information that was available concerning the reproductive activity was compiled 15 or 40 years ago. For this reason and for the months of May to September 2009 was done during the daytime and evening tour of the beach at Punta Gallinas and Bahía Hondita, Guajira, Colombia. Objective: To link the Wayuú community in the conservation actions, register your arrival, oviposition, clutches protect and incentivize the protection of the marine ecosystem. Methodology: During daytime tours and night, was characterized and monitoring 15.73 km which corresponds to seven beaches high Guajira, where posture than three species Dermochelys coriacea, Caretta caretta and Chelonia mydas confirmed and evidenced; the evidence was georeferenced for follow-up. Results: We recorded a total of 22 nesting events, of these 12 are monitored until they hatch and the remaining four by the community consumed five nests altered by manipulation and a false nest without oviposition, they are released 504 hatchlings corresponding to Chelonia mydas and Caretta caretta Conclusion: Given the recent importance of the area, the data contained herein are part of the beginning of a conservation strategy with the support of fishermen and the community at large of the villages of Punta Gallinas and Bahia Hondita, permit as demonstrated in this study, the feasibility of increasing reproductive events, strengthening conservation efforts of sea turtles in the Guajira by Carbones del Cerrejón Limited Company.
