Oedème aigu du poumon chez une chatte persane atteinte d'une cardiomyopathie hypertrophique

    A 4-year old crossbreed Persian female cat with no previous medical history was presented as an emergency for sudden onset of severe dyspnoea. After stabilisation of clinical signs and ancillary tests, a diagnosis was established: acute pulmonary oedema (APO) due to feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy associated with severe left atrial dilatation with no thrombus formation in the atrium. The animal was given a prescription diet and placed under regular monitoring, rather than the standard treatment. The long-term goal was to prevent the clinical consequences by monitoring the cardiopathy by measuring the changes in the myocardial hypertrophy and atrial dilatation. In addition, control of potential hypertension, thrombus formation in the atrium, and emergence of renal or hepatic impairment was monitored.

    Une chatte croisée persane âgée de 4 ans sans aucun antécédent est présentée en urgence pour une dyspnée sévère d'apparition brutale. Après stabilitsation des signes cliniques, les examens complémentaires concluent à un oedème aigu du poumon dû à une cardiomyopathie hypertrophique féline associée à une dilatation sévère de l'oreillette gauche sans thrombus dans cell-ci. Le traitement standard ne faisant pas consensus, l'animal est seulement placé sous suivi régulier. L'objectif sur le long terme est de prévenir les conséquences cliniques grâce à une surveillance de la cardiopathie avec une mesure de l'évolution de l'hypertrophie myocardique et de la dilatation atriale, et un contrôle de l'apparition éventuelle d'une hypertension artériele, de la formation de thrombus dans l'atrium et de l'émergence d'une insuffisance rénale ou hépatique.
