  Referring to the case of the disputes between the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God and the World Church of God’s Power in the first half of 2012, the paper studies the dimension of the spectacle and the cultural market in the religious media. Through an exploratory research of the major scandals and disputes involving churches and religious leaders in the media in recent decades, the study seeks (1) to locate the phenomenon of the spectacle of faith as a marketing strategy in response to competition, which also includes the visi­bility through conflicts; (2) to indicate ways that prompt further investigations

  A propósito das disputas entre a Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus e a Igreja Mundial do Poder de Deus no primeiro semestre de 2012, o artigo estuda a dimensão do espetáculo e do mercado cultural religioso nas mídias. Por meio de uma pesquisa exploratória dos principais escândalos e embates envolvendo igrejas e líderes religiosos nas mídias nas últimas décadas, o estudo busca (1) localizar o fenômeno da espetacularização da fé como uma estratégia de marketing, como resposta à concorrência, que inclui a visibilidade também por meio de conflitos; (2) indicar caminhos que instigam a novas investigações.
