A new format for the "senior seminar" is described. Rather than having students and guest speakers present seminars on a miscellany of topics, we find it productive to organize presentations and written papers around a common topic. In addition, the first "presentation" given by each student is actually a student-led discussion. All students in the seminar are required to read the paper being discussed. In the second term, each student gives a formal presentation based upon more extensive literature research. These changes result in more active participation by all students, a continuous reinforcement of the selected topic, and much more lively discussions than we have had in the past.
