This paper aims to reflect on the role of recognition in the formation of the social self, as well as on the relevance of a prior and necessary emotional disposition when developing attitudes that enable recognition of individuals and social groups to achieve a positive self-reference. It will also reflect on the role of education -as a socially mediated activity- in the formation of such attitudes of recognition. Education understood from the perspective of integral human being may well be helpful when setting out development processes of the social self when highlighting moral emotions, which should be incorporated in the very concept of a comprehensive education, since the emotional is also a constitutive element of human nature itself.
