    Los judíos que habitaron la Antigua Palestina entre los ss. IV a.C. y II d.C. acuñaron monedas con unas características concretas que permiten encuadrarlas bajo la denominación de monedas hebreas . Estas acuñaciones, que se suelen dividir en cinco periodos, contribuyeron, durante la llamada época del Segundo Templo, al desarrollo de la identidad judía como una nación diferenciada a las demás de su entorno, y a la difusión de dicha identidad por toda Palestina.

    The Jews that inhabited Ancient Palestine between IV century B.C. and II century A.D. minted coins that had some special characteristics that allow us to call them Hebrew coins. We only consider as Hebrew coins those that were minted by Jewish authorities with the purpose they were used by Jewish population. These coins, that are usually divided in five periods (Yehud coins, Hasmonean coins, Herodian coins, First Jewish Revolt coins and Bar Kochba coins) contributed, during the so called Second Temple Period, to the development of the jewish identity as a nation different from the rest of the neighboring nations, and to the spreading of such identity among the Jewish population located throughout all Palestine.
