    Nostalgia has become a globalized value which does not mean however that it is the same everywhere nor that those who suffer from it most get the benefit which flows from it. This article illustrates this general proposition by looking at the paintings of Amatiwana Trumai and Amazonian Brasilian Indians and their failure at establishing themselves in the art market. The career of Amatiwana which began in the nineteen sixties is rooted in a life marked by diseases, exile and continual brutal transformations brought about by colonization. Representing for the most part the life which he believes is lost (mythology, rituals, the fauna and flora of the Upper- Xingu), his canvases produce just as much nostalgia as they express. But what kind of nostalgia is concerned, and to whom is it addressed? Is it not a source of misunderstanding concerning concepts of authenticity and originality?

    La nostalgie est désormais une valeur mondialisée, ce qui ne signifie ni qu’elle est partout la même, ni que ceux qui en souffrent le plus en tirent profit en conséquence. Cet article offre à cette proposition générale une illustration, par l’examen des peintures d’Amatiwana Trumai, Indien d’Amazonie brésilienne, et de leur échec à s’insérer sur le marché de l’art. La carrière d’Amati, débutée dans les années 1960, s’ancre dans une existence marquée par la maladie, l’exil, le constat des transformations brutales induites par la colonisation. Figurant pour la plupart la vie qu’il estime avoir perdue (la mythologie, les rituels, la faune et la flore du Haut-Xingu), ses toiles produisent la nostalgie autant qu’elles l’expriment. Mais de quelle nostalgie s’agit-il et à qui s’adresse-t-elle ? Ne suscite-t-elle pas des malentendus sur les notions d’authenticité et d’original ?
