In a first and evidently non-reflexive approach, we tend to think that the senses allow us to perceive entities which are part of the real world; for instance, electromagnetic waves possessing the property of color, waves whose intrinsic property is sound, etc. The hypothesis that sensations produced by our senses when adequately stimulated are just sensations, and not a reflection of realities of the world, is quite acceptable from a scientific viewpoint. It is difficult to imagine the world and the universe from this perspective since, according to it, the sun and the stars do not emit light, and we cannot find even one physical phenomenon producing any sound. Smoothness and roughness do not exist either, etc. According to this approach, everything is an appearance created by the brain when it receives certain signals from the sensory organs.
