    O presente estudo privilegia uma leitura comparatista de Os Escravos de Castro Alves com poemas de Victor Hugo – fonte de inspiração de uma ideologia revolucionária e humanitária que norteou a escrita do jovem poeta baiano. Sublinharemos em ambos os autores afinidades de pensamento, conformes ao espírito liberal da época, bem como o recurso aos artifícios de uma retórica proferida em tom grandiloquente e a processos representativos de uma simbologia e imagética comuns.

    This article aims to analyze the types of phraseology included in the Dictionarium Lusitanicolatinum, published in 1611, by the Portuguese The current study is based on a comparative reading of Os Escravos by Castro Alves and poems by Victor Hugo, a source of revolutionary and humanitarian inspiration which guided Castro Alves’ work. This study aims to highlight not only both authors’ affinities of thought in keeping with the liberal spirit of the Age but also the contrivances of a rhetoric expressed in a magnificent tone and the representantive processes that involve common symbology and imagery.
