  Export performance and South-South trade A sectoral analysis applied to Sub-Saharan Africa This paper aims at analyzing the sectoral characteristics of South-South trade, looking in particular at the bilateral trade of Sub-Saharan African countries in the period 2000-2009. We first report the decomposition of each country’s export performance, identifying the contribution of foreign market access and internal supply capacity. Then, focusing on the determinants of export performance, we endogenize the development of domestic productive capacities along foreign market access by introducing the presence of demand spillovers. The interaction between the two forces at work (demand spillovers versus tensions on the factor markets) are here differentiated by stage of product and by export destination in the South.

  Cette étude analyse les spécificités sectorielles du commerce Sud-Sud en retenant le commerce bilatéral des pays d’Afrique sub-saharienne sur la période 2000-2009. Dans un premier temps, nous décomposons les performances à l’exportation d’un pays entre la contribution de l’accès au marché extérieur et celle relevant des capacités d’offre internes. Dans un second temps, nous endogénéisons les capacités d’offre en fonction de l’accès au marché par l’introduction d’effets de débordement générés par la demande (demand spillovers). L’interaction entre les deux forces en présence (retombées de demande versus tensions provoquées sur le marché des facteurs) est ici différenciée par stade de production et par zone d’exportation au Sud.
