Resumen de Comprometiéndose con el mundo: América Latina y la internacionalización de la investigación en turismo

Este trabajo presente una amplia visión de la internacionalización de la investigación turística en la cual se puede situar la experiencia latinoamericana y ofrece algunas ideas y sugerencias respecto a la forma en la que la investigación en la región podría ser mejor integrada, al igual que la manera un mayor compromiso con investigaciones e investigadores de diferentes partes del mundo podría ser alentada. La primera parte del artículo analiza cinco puntos: ¿qué se entiende por internacionalización?; ¿qué patrones están emergiendo?; ¿qué está impulsando la internacionalización?; ¿cuál es el papel que juega el idioma en la internacionalización?; y ¿cuál es el significado y el impacto de la internacionalización? La segunda parte ofrece sugerencias respecto a la manera en que los investigadores latinoamericanos podrían formular sus trabajos de manera de diseminarlos de manera más amplia e integrarlos con mayor impacto en la literatura internacional.

Engaging with the World. Latin America and the Internationalization of Tourism Research. This paper provides a broad picture of the internationalization of tourism research within which the Latin American experience might be situated and offers some ideas and suggestions as to how research in the region might be integrated further and how a greater engagement with research and researchers in other parts of the world might be fostered. The first part of the paper addresses five questions: what is meant by the internationalization; what patterns are emerging; what is driving internationalization; what is the role of language in internationalization; and what is the significance and impact of internationalization? The second part offers suggestions as to how Latin American researchers might frame their work in order to disseminate it more widely and integrate their studies with greater impact in the international literature.
