    • VETERINARY surgeon Sarah Cleaveland has become the first researcher from the University of Glasgow to be elected to the US National Academy of Medicine (NAM).

      Membership of the NAM (formerly known as the Institute of Medicine) recognises individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievements and commitment to service. Election to the academy is considered one of the highest honours in the fields of health and medicine. Professor Cleaveland, who is professor of comparative epidemiology at Glasgow's Institute of Biodiversity, Animal Health and Comparative Medicine, was elected in recognition of her work and research into zoonotic and livestock diseases in developing countries. She is one of 70 ‘regular members’ to be elected this year; a further 10 international members were also elected. The NAM has a total of 1826 active members and 137 international members....
