In Spain there is a great variety of illuminated manuscripts, being especially prominent those which illustrate the text of the Apocalypse of St. John, the Beatos. Many of these codices remain in perfect condition, whereas others have suffered serious defacements and deterioration. This is the case of the Beato of Cardeña, in the Museo Arqueológico Nacional in Madrid. After its restoration, a preliminary study was carried out on this codex from the late 12th Century in order to determine which miniatures it contains and the subject they illustrate, establishing as far as possible their correct position within the whole.
