  • The article discusses the counterterrorism policies of the U.S. during the administration of U.S. president Barack Obama. It compares and contrasts the policies of Obama and former U.S. president George W. Bush, discusses the use of drone aircraft strikes by the Obama administration against Salafi jihadist groups such as Islamic State (ISIS) and al Qaeda during the Obama administration, and examines the implications of the end of U.S. involvement in the Iraq War. It also discusses Obama's strategy of security assistance to U.S. allies and strategic partners, the rise and spread of ISIS in the Middle East, and the Obama administration's focus on underlying conditions that create recruitment opportunities for terrorist organizations
