    Amelioration Aiming at Greater Humanity. The author suggests that the wording in the rubric of the „Isaurian“ Ecloga of probably 741 does not concern a substantive but rather a stylistic amelioration - in the sense of a simplification in comparison with Justinian’s codification.

    Nach Ansicht des Autors bezieht sich die Formulierung „epidiorthosis eis to philanthropoteron = Verbesserung zum Zwecke größerer Menschenfreundlichkeit“ in der Überschrift der vermutlich 741 promulgierten „isaurischen“ Ecloga nicht auf eine inhaltliche, sondern eine sprachliche Verbesserung - zum Zwecke einer Vereinfachung im Vergleich zur justinianischen Kodifikation.
