Resumen de Bovine TB: Bespoke TB advice service launched

  • A NEW service offering bespoke veterinary advice to cattle keepers within the areas of Gloucestershire and Somerset where the pilot culls of badgers have been taking place has been launched by the APHA.

Plans for the service were announced by Defra in December last year (VR, January 3, 2015, vol 176, p 4); the advice given will aim to help farmers within the cull areas reduce the risk of bovine TB on their farms. The service will be available for two years and, Defra says, ‘will help farmers to strengthen their TB prevention measures to the highest practical levels’. It adds that the service is intended to complement other TB control measures in place within the cull areas, such as the badger cull licences, cattle movement controls and the annual TB testing requirement.
