EACH year, the charity Dogs Trust asks all veterinary students who undertake EMS placements with it to write a report on an aspect of their placement. It then invites the authors of the three best reports to an awards ceremony at which a winner is selected. This year's event took place on April 10 during the BSAVA congress in Birmingham.
In 2014, 38 students undertook EMS at Dogs Trust's rehoming centres, explained Paula Boyden, the charity's veterinary director. The two-week placements provide students with a chance to improve their surgical skills and experience aspects of shelter medicine, particularly behaviour.
