  • Resumen
    • THE fourth year of badger vaccination within the Intensive Action Area (IAA) in west Wales is under way, Rebecca Evans, the deputy minister for farming and food in Wales, announced on May 28.

The five-year vaccination project is part of the Welsh Government's wider programme to eradicate bovine TB from cattle in Wales. In the first three years of the project, more than 4000 doses of vaccine have been administered. The vaccination work is undertaken in cycles, most of which last for four weeks. The Welsh Government says that this year's vaccination programme is expected to be completed over seven cycles, continuing until the end of October.

Ms Evans said, ‘The badger vaccination project in the IAA is aimed at developing a degree of immunity to bovine TB within the badger population and should reduce the potential for the onward spread of infection to cattle and other badgers in the area. We are closely monitoring the results of vaccination and publish a report on our progress to date each year.’
