Awards: Recognition for research that is transforming dog health

FOUR scientists who have played key roles in transforming dog health were recognised in the recent International Canine Health Awards, which were presented on June 25 at the 8th International Conference on Advances in Canine and Feline Genomics in Cambridge.
The awards are run by the Kennel Club Charitable Trust and are underwritten by a gift from Vernon and Shirley Hill of Metro Bank. They were launched at Crufts in 2012 and were developed to recognise and reward innovative researchers, veterinary scientists and students whose work had a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of dogs. Three awards are presented – the International Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Postgraduate Student Award, with all recipients receiving prize money to further their work.
This year, there were two winners of the International Award: Cathryn Mellersh, of the Kennel Club Genetics Centre at the Animal Health Trust, and David Argyle of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.
