    Los archivos catedralicios conservan la memoria escrita de las catedrales, iglesia madre de la Diócesis. En estas iglesias locales se encuentra la Sede o Cátedra del obispo, quien, desde los albores de la Alta Edad Media, se verá auxiliado en el desempeño de su magisterio por un grupo de clérigos que le asisten en el culto divino, además de asesorarle y colaborar con él en el gobierno de la diócesis y en la administración de sus bienes, conformando lo que se conoce como “Cabildo”. Fruto de su actividad y del incremento paulatino del patrimonio capitular nacerán los archivos catedralicios, en virtud de la necesidad de conservar los testimonios escritos que generaban. Dicha documentación, por lo que respecta al Archivo de la Catedral de Cuenca, se puede clasificar en cuatro grandes bloques: “Institucional, Secretaría, Fábrica y Mesa Capitular”, complementados por otras secciones menores: “Elecciones episcopales, Sede vacante, Obras pías, Justicia, Liturgia”, y por el Archivo de Música.

    The cathedral archives conserve the written memory of the cathedrals, church mother of the Diocese. In these churches local we found Seat or Chair of bishop, who, from the beginnings of the High Middle Ages, will be helped in the development of his functions by a group of clergymen who attend to him in the divine cult, besides to counsel to him and to collaborate with him in the government of the diocese and the administration of his properties, conforming what we denominated like “Cabildo”. Fruit of their activity and the gradual increase of the capitular patrimony will be born the cathedral archives, by virtue of the necessity to conserve the testimonies written that they generated. This documentation, with respect to the Archive of the Cathedral of Cuenca, can be classified in four great blocks: “Institucional, Secretaría, Fábrica and Mesa Capitular”, complemented by other smaller sections: “Elecciones episcopales, Sede vacante, Obras pías, Justicia, Liturgia” and by the Archive of Music.
