  • Jeff and Susan are a young married couple who are trying to conceive their first child to please their families. As the pressure builds up, they start to consider alternative ways of boosting their chances of a successful pregnancy. As the story unfolds, the reader is invited to consider the social dimensions of scientific knowledge through the couple's efforts to save their marriage. This case is also an effective approach to incorporating internationally held science standards into instruction, including: science communication; public understanding of science; the nature of science; science, technology, society and environment (STSE); environmental sciences; and environmental education.
