In the spring of 2014, the Learned Societies' Group on Scottish Science Education (LSG) conducted a survey of resourcing of practical science in Scottish primary and secondary schools.
This was designed to identify barriers to conducting practical work in terms of resourcing for equipment, provision of facilities and technician support. This article reports on the findings of this survey, compares the findings with work on costing the adequate delivery of practical science in the curriculum, and identifies some next steps.
