This article illustrates how the first steps into book digitization were taken. Modern book digitization was born in the 2000 Congress in Mainz by The Society for the History of Authorship, Reading and Publishing (SHARP). As expected, the digitized book around which the Congress hinged was the 42-lined Bible by Gutenberg.
