Resumen de Un piccolo risarcimento per Giovanni di Pietro da Pisa

Ireneu Visa Guerrero

  • An acknoledgement for Giovanni di Pietro da Pisa.

The present article gives news of the identification of a photo from the Fondazione Zeri, showing two scenes from the life of Saint Stephen, as part of the predella -presently of unknown whereabouts- which originally formed part of the triptych by Giovanni di Pietro da Pisa representing the 'Virgin and Child between Saints Agatha, Stephen, Francis and Christina'. Since 1960 the work has been in the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona, unfortunately devoid of its predella.

A comparison of this photograph with an engraving which D'Agincourt had had executed, showing the work in its original entirety when it was in the collection of Cardinal Zelada in Rome, proves that the scenes appearing in the photograph belonged to the triptych by the Pisan artist.

This restitution is accompained by a review of the critical history of the work and also by a chronology of its ownership, thus clarifying its various movements on the antique market during the XXth century.
