La Universidad de Huesca, una de las más antiguas de España, fue fundada por Pedro IV de Aragón en 1354. No obstante, no obtuvo la sanción de la Santa Sede, la cual era imprescindible, hasta 1465. Desde entonces funcionó de un modo ininterrumpido hasta su cierre en 1845. Hasta ahora se conocen los nombres de unos 280 rectores. Cada uno de ellos ejercía su cargo durante un año. En general, pertenecían a los grupos sociales más privilegiados. Al acabar sus estudios obtuvieron destacados puestos profesionales, tanto en la administración civil como en la eclesiástica. Entre ellos son numerosos los catedráticos de la Universidad, canónigos catedralicios, obispos o magistrados de Audiencias y Chancillerías.

The University of Huesca, one of the oldest in Spain, was founded by Pedro IV, king of Aragon, in 1354. However, it did not obtain the sanction of the Holy See, which was essential, until 1465. Since then he worked in a continuous mode until his closing in 1845. There are known the names of approximately 280 rectors. Each of them was exercising his post for one year. In general, they belong to the most privileged social groups. After finishing his studies they obtained outstanding professional positions, both in the civil and in the ecclesiastic administration. Among them there are many professors of the University, cathedral canons, bishops or judges of Spanish Audiencias and Chancillerías.
