  • Resumen
    • This paper’s focus is on the little researched and sometimes vague concept of interest, discussed here in relation to EFL learning and the potential interest-enhancing strategies that learners may employ if they do not find learning English interesting enough. The study was undertaken to investigate how adolescent EFL learners evaluate the interestingness of major classroom activities and how they cope with those activities that are ranked low in this respect. A three-part questionnaire was administered to 230 learners aged 13–16 years old at four different locations. The results of the study show that these learners are moderately interested in EFL learning activities, but they can encourage themselves to persist in doing tasks that they find less interesting by employing interest-enhancing strategies that are mainly instrumental and goal-oriented.
