In this presentation, I relate principles and theories in EFL to trends in foreign language teaching in Colombia. This is no attempt at an exhaustive coverage of ways in which one might innovate in foreign language teaching. Rather, I have been very selective in what I present, and focus on trends that reflect how I would like to see foreign language teaching in Colombia develop. I have ignored present limitations as regards teacher education and resource available. My description therefore has a certain utopian quality.
