En este artículo se proyecta una visión retrospectiva de la política inmigratoria del estado espa;ol durante la primera década del siglo XXI, con una atención particular que correspondió a la Comunidad Autónoma de Canarias en esas actuaciones.
In this article, we show a retrospective vision of the Spanish State immigration policy during the first decade of the XXI century, paying particular attention to the participation in those actions of the Canary Islands.
We are interested in verifying the practical fulfilment of the regulations coming from the European Union and the Spanish State more than in a mere identification of the legal frame. These regulations are put forward to get the immigrants to come to terms with the political identity, articulated according to constitutional values of the welcoming society.
Actually, full adaptability of the immigrants to the Spanish society and their acceptation of the approved patterns by the Constitution require a previous articulation of an integrating model as a reference for all citizens. This is still a pending task, although some Autonomous Communities have made some progress in designing some instructions that could put on track this process.
A change regarding the analysis of the situation is certainly necessary in such a way that what appears today as Alien Status could be restructured as Immigration Laws in so that the fundamental concern of the legal system would stop being only a regulation and control of the alien status and the adequate regulation of the migratory process as a whole would become favored.
