  • Pituitary adenomas are frequently silent. Among silent adenomas, some are clinically silent but can be detected on the basis of the excessive secretion of hormonal products, whereas others are totally silent and cannot be detected by hormonal measurements. Treatment of a silent pituitary adenoma depends on its size and extent. Silent adenomas that are associated with neurologic compromise should be treated by surgery. Postoperative radiation therapy may be used to prevent or treat recurrences. Only occasional silent pituitary adenomas respond to treatment with dopamine agonists or somatostatin analo
